One Tree

One Tree

You came across the water
Taking land that did not belong to you
Chased the natives from their homes
Killing some for no reason
Locking some away in dark cells
You put the rest on compounds
Places where you could control them
Then you hunted the animals
So many we are down to the last few
They were both here long before you
Man and animal settled this land
While you and yours lived in caves
Now the land is yours
My home has been taken from me
So I, like so may wander the land
Looking for a chance to live in peace
Now, I have only one question
Just for me
In your haste to kill and control this land
Couldn’t you just leave one tree standing
One tree where I could sleep, eat and live

I guess not
