My '67 VW

My '67 VW

I remember the moment I saw you
Sitting in the sun
I fell in love and swept you away
We travelled the world together
Places I never thought I'd ever see
We went to see Woodstock
Rockets launch from Cape Kennedy
You were there when I met my first love
And my second and third
My kids played with you in the front yard
Took you on road trips to God knows where
And even learned about life with you by their sides
But all good things leave
It is just part of nature
You were in my life for so long
My good times and the times I wanted to die
You were there.
The night you died I slept with a shot glass in my hand
A half empty bottle of Jack resting in my lap

And I cried

The Goddess

The Goddess

How could anyone ever meet you
Such a beauty to behold
Are you an angel from Heaven
A queen from a lost ago time
A goddess who fell to Earth
Your eyes do show your soul
Just enough to tease anyone who looks at you
But not enough for anyone to know you
All we have is your beauty
The  mystery in your face
Please give us a chance to meet you
Your heart and your soul
Give us a chance to see the real you
So we can get to know you

And have a chance to love you

Looking Down

Looking Down

Why are you standing there
Looking down on us
The creatures your God created
The creatures you left here alone
Are you judging us
How we took the world God gave us
We destroyed the air and he water
We raped the precious soil
We did everything we could to hurt each other
We fucked up the paradise God had given us
I can understand if we have gone too far to be helped
Has it gotten to where God just doesn’t care
Why won’t you answer this question
You just stand there looking down on us
Looking down to watch what we do
How we do it
And why we do it
But, your job is just to be our judge
Watch and decide the fate of the people God created
And maybe decide how He will start again

Once we are gone

Imagination

Imagination

Somewhere there is a world
A place where anything can happen
There can be wars and peace where everyone lives
Animals long extinct roaming with modern man
Islands with only one inhabitant
Foods with flavors never tasted before
Kisses that never end from women who don’t exist
And couples who never argue
Clean air and always sunny skies
And never, ever a flake of snow
Such a world is only in my mind
Not in a dream
It is somewhere every person has within them
A magical land called imagination
Where everyone can see what they want to see
Where they can be who they want to be
All you have to do is open the door

And you will be welcome

One Tree

One Tree

You came across the water
Taking land that did not belong to you
Chased the natives from their homes
Killing some for no reason
Locking some away in dark cells
You put the rest on compounds
Places where you could control them
Then you hunted the animals
So many we are down to the last few
They were both here long before you
Man and animal settled this land
While you and yours lived in caves
Now the land is yours
My home has been taken from me
So I, like so may wander the land
Looking for a chance to live in peace
Now, I have only one question
Just for me
In your haste to kill and control this land
Couldn’t you just leave one tree standing
One tree where I could sleep, eat and live

I guess not

Looking For Sleep

Looking For Sleep

God, just let me sleep
I have counted a million sheep
Stared at the ceiling
Listened to the crickets chirping
Even went and got warm milk
Still sleep avoids me
My mind will not shut down for the night
What will Sharion do with Michael
How will the people go on
What word rhymes with pompous
So many stories running through my mind
Poems that need to be written
But, not at that moment
Not when my eyes should be closed
It is so bad I started taking notes on toilet paper
My little pad ran out hours ago
Another night gone
One sunbeam hitting me from the dawn
I just want to forget the world and sleep
Maybe I will just delete my book
Stop writing poems and stop thinking
Then my eyes will close and I will fall to sleep
At least until my baby starts crying

I Am An Alien

I Am An Alien

I am an alien to this world
Born of atoms created billions of years ago
Atoms which drifted through time
Across millions of light years of space
Not connecting until they came upon a blue green planet
Random events brought them together
Giving them the breath of life
The freedom to exist together yet on their own
Combining into chains and molecules
Until two one celled inhabitants of human bodies combined
That random event mixed just perfectly
And that spark of life once  again ignited
I was born not long after
A member of the human species
Still an alien whose life began in the darkness of space
In the millionth of a second when nothing became everything

And I was created.
