Walking My Own Road

Walking My Own Road

I know this road
I have walked it for so many years
To get to where I am now
It is a shorter journey before me
And such a long distance behind
Still, I would travel that road
Walk all of the way back
To my beginning
Start my life all over again
Take the time to learn more
Talk to more people
Maybe say “I love you” a few moments sooner
Maybe make it last a little bit longer
I wish I could change my road
Turn at the first intersection
But this is my road
I created it as I lived
Now, I cannot go back
My soul will not permit it
So, I walk the road
I don’t wish to but I have no choice
Step by step I must proceed

Knowing the end is coming closer

Life In A Freckle

Life In A Freckle

Who do we think we are
The only planet
In the only solar system
In the only galaxy
Such a massive reality
But, maybe that isn’t true
Maybe we live on an electron
Orbiting  a nucleus
With eight other electrons
(Yes, I counted Pluto)
In a molecule
Inside of a freckle
On the face of a little girl
Living on her own electron
Orbiting its own nucleus
With three other electrons
Inside of a molecule
In another girl’s freckle

And on and on in an endless line

Learn From The Little Children

Learn From The Little Children

I love watching little children
Their playful innocence
The way they can turn a box
Magically into anything they want
Am empty bowl into a chocolate sundae
And a hug into something really special
They can see the universe in a snowflake
And a snowflake in a distant star
Even when a day is going really wrong
The smile a child gives makes everything right
There is something unique in children
It doesn't matter what color you are
What god you follow
Or what you look like
To a child who has not learned to hate
You are a friend to play with
And talk to
Maybe, if we leave children alone
And not warp their minds
Someday we may all be friends to play with

And wouldn't that be nice

The Fire Of Fall

The Fire Of Fall

After months of heat
Burning sun
Creating a deep green canopy
The Northern Winds come
Cooling the air
Chasing the Sun below the Equator
The green fades as the light dies
Bright reds, oranges and yellows
Gives us a new beauty
It will not last long
It is such a short time until there is no color
And the whiteness of snow
Covers the land
But, it also only lasts a short time

And the cycles begins again

The Email Novel

The Email Novel

I have written her an email
Said hello
Told her I missed her
And that I loved her
Then I said goodbye
I waited for an answer
When I got it
It was amazing
Lines one through thirty two
Told me about what she ate for dinner
Lines thirty three through thirty nine
Talked about her fingernails
Forty through fifty six
Told me about a picture she saw on Twitter
Lines fifty seven through sixty
Gossiped about a woman on the Bachelor
Sixty one through ninety
I heard about the dress she was wearing to her reunion
And lastly ninety one through one hundred eighteen
Was about her stubbing her toe on the dresser
There was never a hello
Never an I miss you
Or even I love you
Maybe, just maybe
If I send HER a book next time
I will get an email that I can read in less than two hours

At least I hope so

I Ain’t Going

I Ain’t Going

I can hear you screaming
Sitting outside my window
It is driving me insane
Endless and piercing
Are you Samael or Lucifer
It doesn’t matter
I know what you want
I know why you are here
But, I am not ready
There is too much left to do
You could take me to Heaven
You can take me to Hell
I don’t care
So, just fly away and take someone else
Because I ain’t going anywhere with you
But, if you are just a bird
Just get the hell out of here
And let me sleep

Amber

Amber

Millions of years ago
A tree stood in the tropical heat
Then something happened
A wound opened
It just cut through the bark
Still the tree bled
A thick golden syrup
Swallowing all it touches
Until it reaches the grass below
The tree died so long ago
The syrup stayed on
Through heat and cold
Flood and drought
And it became a gemstone
Admired and loved
A treasure with a piece of ancient life
Something more valuable than gold

And it all came from a tree

Reopen The Bases

Reopen The Bases

The U.S. Government hires so many
Dresses them in uniforms
And send them out to fight wars
They fight and some die
Others come home crippled
Unable to work or find a home
So, they live on the streets
While thousands of homes sit empty
Government homes the president ordered closed
Someone, somewhere has to ask why
Why are the closed bases not given to the people
Given to the soldiers who asked for nothing
They served for the love of a country
A country who turned their back
When they stepped off of the plane
Take the time to thank them
Give them somewhere to live
Somewhere to be a person again
Instead of the unwanted that you made them
After all, they served you
Now is your turn to serve them
Reopen the bases and give them a home

Give them their lives back

Let Us Talk

Let Us Talk

Hey, old black fellah
I see history in your eyes
Fifty thousand years of your people
May I sit down next to you
I wish to hear your stories
Tell me of the Lost Generation
The bigotry your people have faced
The massacres when the Europeans first came
The final acceptance of your people
Into the newly formed Australia
Tell me of your myths and legends
Tell me of your Dreamtime
I want to know more about you
I want to know your people
Please allow me to sit with you
Let us talk
Help me to understand

The proud Aboriginal people

Pain Of The Waves

Pain Of The Waves

Why can’t they see
My mind torn by thoughts
By dreams
And by nightmares
No man could imagine
Thoughts that no man should have
Wave after wave
Created by a storm on the horizon
They crash on the beach
Tearing it to shreds
As my mind struggles to make sense
Of what there is no sense to
I go from the light of happiness
With unicorns and angels
To the pits of darkness
A place of demons and pain
Within the single beat of a heart
My eyes tear as another wave crashes
As I know of the pain it brings
I claw my flesh to make the thoughts leave
But, I know that until the seas calm
The distant storms fade away
And the waves return to the horizon
I will not know peace
