The Empty Window

The Empty Window

More years ago than I want to count
We lived near Kreuz Strasse
There was a little girl who lived there
She was maybe three years old
And she always wore a smile
But she was never outside
We never saw her except through a window
She would wave to us everyday
And always mouth “hallo” to each of us
And she was why we always walked that way
Then, the soldiers came
We kept walking by and one day she was gone
No one told us what happened
But we missed that little girl and her smiles
Seventy-five years later I still stand before the house
Staring up at that empty window

Looking for a smile that will never return

The Last Second

The Last Second

She was born into a world of strife
Wars and hatred surrounded her
She fought on to make herself happy
But no matter what she did
No matter how she tried
She couldn’t forget that she only has so many hours
That she had more moments behind her
And a consistently lessening number before her
While her clock was dying before her
She walked bravely through the storms
And in the last second of the last hour
She will look back at the turmoil that was her life
And she will smile and flip the world off

Only then will she go to the paradise she deserves

Dreams And Butterflies

Dreams And Butterflies

Butterflies are such magical creatures
Carrying dreams for little children
While all the time watching over them
Their lace wings share gentle breezes
Across their innocent, smiling faces
When I pray to God I ask for one thing
I ask for each butterfly to carry one minute
A single moment to stop a child from aging
Maybe all them to spend on more minute playing
Instead of growing up and losing what they have

Including their belief in dreams and butterflies

Remembering Sudan

Remembering Sudan
R.I.P. Sudan – 19/03/18

A wild soul
The last of its kind
Sudan lived forty-five years
Struggling to keep his species alive
His soul was still strong
Even when his body failed
But, even in his final moment
He remained a gentle giant
Loved and cherished
With his death we must stand together
To save other animals
Before they suffer the fate of the northern white rhino

And the Earth loses another gentle giant

Listen To The Stories

Listen To The Stories

Will you walk with me
I know it is a ragged path
Through a place people do not go
As you walk please open your mind
Listen to the whispers of lives gone
They have stories to tell
Their stories may be of love and hope
Or they may be something not so good
But they are still told again and again
Echoing through the City Of The Dead
Whispers drifting on a silent wind

All you have to do is listen

The Failing Mind

The Failing Mind

I know I had a full mind
It worked as it should
But now, I have lost my mind
To a point where I have a brain cell left
Just one left
Floating in a big empty space
I can remember years ago
But not what I had for breakfast
Still, even after my last brain cell goes
I will remember you and our times together
And if that memory ever fades
That will be the day my life ends
For I could never exist without you
Even if you are only in my thoughts

And nor would I want to

Grumpy

Grumpy

She wakes up at 5 a.m.
The kids screaming
Husband can’t find his pants
Rain is pouring through the ceiling
And the coffee maker’s broke
But, she knows of a holy place
Created by a caring millionaire
A place to relieve her pain
And turn her from Grumpy to Happy
An Espresso Macchiato is just what she needs
And she needs to make it a double
Too bad she has no cash
And her purse is at home where she left it
So, Grumpy she is and Grumpy she will remain
At least until she can borrow the needed $8.50
Then it will be “Thank God” for Starbucks

Hell

Hell

I do not want to be lifted on wings
There is no place for me in paradise
I have known all my life where I should be
I have a place reserved for me
Down in the chasm into the darkness
There will be no flowers or grass
Just the bones of those who went before me
In the distance screams fill the air
The tortured suffering for their sins
Never to be released
Still, I am not afraid of my fate
Because I was too sarcastic for Heaven
And the Devil was afraid I would take over
Which I will

The Way We Learned

The Way We Learned

When I was 12 years old
We could not see porn
We did not have the internet
We needed to read Playboy
Through its pages
We learned about women
About what they liked
What they didn’t like
And what their boobies looked like
Our friends stole them from their fathers
Sometimes we snuck into bookstores
And we’d hide between the shelves
Just to look at the centerfolds
But every month there was a new girl
She was always sweet and innocent
And someone we fell in love with
However, that was a lifetime ago
Our need for the girls of Playboy died
But those beauties will never be forgotten
And their centerfolds will never leave our attics

Reality

Reality

How do we know what is real
Everything may just be imagination
What our mind tells us we see
We all know the sky isn’t blue
But we also know that it is
We do not really know what we look like
We do know how others see us
Of if what we see of them is true
We only see an image
And painting created by our mind
It is what our mind says
So, it must be right
We may never know
Never be sure
But it is our world
Everyone’s different
And everyone’s the same
It all depends on what your mind sees

And if you choose to believe it

The Perfect Day

The Perfect Day

The day was perfect
There were just a few clouds
Fluffy and white
Like balls of cotton floating above
Warm breezes swirl around
Carrying the smell of fresh cut grass
So, kick off your shoes and relax
It is just the right time
To lie in an open field
Open a book

And take a trip into another life

You Need Her

You Need Her

Yo humanity
Go ahead
Point your gun at nature
Load it with over construction
Prime it with pollution
Do you think she is going to care
Do you think you scare her
Think about something a minute
You need her water, air and plants
You need her world to live on
What does she need you for
Nothing
You are no more than ticks to her
Creatures to be ignored of swatted
Just remember that you do need her

And she doesn’t need you

Love’s Child Of Verona

Love’s Child Of Verona

Lady Juliet Capulet
Love’s Child of Verona
You were the epitome of love
Passion and loss was your life
Our joy and our tears were with you
And even though you lived long ago
Women still look to you
Only you can help them find love
Or dry their tears after a love lost
Lady Juliet, for their sake
Please know that as long as you are in Verona
The visitors and letters will come to you
And the dreamers will believe

In Love’s Child of Verona
