Freckles

Freckles

Who told you that you weren’t pretty
That your skin had to be completely flawless
You have so much unique about you
The freckles you have are you
No matter what they say
There is something special about you
An inner and outer beauty that everyone sees
So, the makeup they sell you only hides you
And you really have no reason to hide
Every freckle you have is the touch of an angel
A sign that Heaven has blessed you
And it was given at the second of your creation
So, wear your “imperfections” with pride

Because that is the way God wanted you to be

The American DJ

The American DJ

A lifetime ago
We had friends all night long
Living all over the AM dial
They played all music
Anything we wanted
All we had to do was call
Free concert tickets
Cheap little prizes
Or maybe some spending cash
We never slept
Especially on the weekends
We listened all night long
Calling in to win
Or maybe just to talk
They were always willing to listen
Then they all just vanished
Became extinct like the dinosaurs
But, the American DJ will be missed

Even if no one is old enough to remember them

Moonshine Thursday

Moonshine Thursday

Thursday night with nothing to do
It’s a long weekend
And the fridge is empty
But, I know a place
Down at the end of Sycamore Road
A still hidden in the back
And Mason Jars full of moonshine
The people there are just like me
Sad, lonely and just a little bit crazy
But, they all love to drink and have fun
And that is what I need right now
So, after an hour of backyard banjo
And at least a gallon of shine
The empty fridge and my empty belly is a memory
And that fat girl at the corner table
In the halter top and cut off jeans is looking good
Well, she is looking mighty good
Another gallon of drink
I’’ll take her home for the night
I know I will wake up wondering what I have done
And who she is
But, after another drink or two or three
This Friday won't look so bad
Except for my broken fridge and the naked girl in my bed

They may make me stop drinking

I Will Remember You

I Will Remember You
R.e. Taylor

I do not know if I am going to die
And I don’t know the date and time
I do not care where my soul ends up
There will be so many people I will miss
Some more than others
Just know, whether I miss you or not
Whether I loved you or not

I will always remember you

Colours

Colours

I can see so many colours
Nature has created so many
Man has made so many more
Some are blindingly beautiful
They are the ones everyone sees
Other ate dull and hardly ever seen
Still, they are all there
They make us who we are
They make us create
And see what others may not
Maybe turn the world better
However, there are others
Colours which should be forgotten
Brown, red, yellow, brown, and white
They are used to create hatred
But look behind what you see
Get to know the person, not the colour
They may be more like you than you think
And you both may be the better for it

Bush Party

Bush Party

Let the Sun go down
Let the full moon rise
Light the fire
And tap the keg
Old John can play
Bringing his guitar to life
Let's all sing our favourite songs
And dance until we fall
The are no rules
Except to celebrate living
The time has come
Light the world
Come together
And be as one
Tonight is the night
Let's have a bush party
A once in a life event
That we have all of the time
If it is as good as we hope
No one will remember a thing
But we will all wait another month
When the Sun has set
And the full moon has risen

When we do it all again

A Voice For Safety

A Voice For Safety

A new world is here
Not the Utopia dreamed of
Fear and anger fill the streets
And people have nowhere to turn
Schools, stores and concerts are not safe
Hundreds are gunned down
Walking on the street can be a death sentence
If some lunatic decides he is having a bad day
Police and government are useless
Powerless to help
This world needs a single person
One to stand up and say enough is enough
There will be no killing today
No one will be harmed today
Then, with their voice
People will stop their hate speech
And we may be able to survive

At least for another day

Weekend At The Beach

Weekend At The Beach

She dreams of Friday
The work week behind her
Getting yelled at
Never getting everything done
Always being watched
The moment she clocks out
Her life changes
The beach calls with its warm Sun
The coolness of the soft breezes
And the smell of the salt water
It is so close that she feels its spray
For three days she does nothing but relax
Closing her eyes, she goes to another world
A world with no bosses and no deadlines
She just lives in every moment
And she prays that they would never end
But that will never happen
Real life knows where to find her
And it knows that she will be back on Monday
At least for the five days before the ocean calls

And the other world once again becomes reality

Hey Gravedigger

Hey Gravedigger

Hey there gravedigger
I know you are waiting for me
The hole you dug is deep
And the ground is dark and cold
I am not ready yet
But fate says I have to go
They will place a rope around my neck
Someone will say a few words
And they will take my life
I only ask one thing with my last breath
Bury me deep
Deeper than I should be
Let me rest in the peace I never had
And please mister gravedigger
Cover me quickly
And leave no marker at my head
Once that rope snaps my neck
I do not want to be remembered

I just want to be left alone
