Bougainvillea
I
almost didn’t find you
Hiding
in the back of the garden center
Just
a stick with a couple of leaves
Something
told me you were special
I
paid the fifteen bucks they wanted
And
you went home with me
A
large pot and some deep black soil
And
soon you became family
I watered
you and cared for you
Made
sure that you were never too dry
A
year later you had grown
Taken
over the garden
But
I still loved you
And
your pink leaves and tiny flowers
You
made my mornings as I looked out
And
I knew that life would be good
