Riding The Rails

Riding The Rails
by Lord R.e. Taylor

Let’s step back in time
Take a ride through a wonderland
Hear the clicks of the wheels
Feel the rocking of the cars
You can almost imagine the past
Cowboys and ladies traveling west
Building a new frontier
While trying to avoid masked bandits
As well as pissed-off Indian tribes
You never knew what was going to happen
But such was life back in our history
Whenever you went aboard a steam locomotive

Scary Night

Scary Night
by Lord R.e. Taylor

It is so strange at night
You swear that monsters do exist
They wander the world
Looking for an unaware you
Watching from the shadows
Waiting for you to make a mistake
Only then will they appear
With only one thing on their mind
They want your immortal soul
And they don't care what they have to do
They do know one thing that you don't
You will not make it home tonight

Magic Of The Forest

Magic Of The Forest
by Lord R.e. Taylor

The wilderness is such a beautiful place
A place where you can go and forget
It does not matter what you want to lose
Everything bad will be gone in just moments
Just listen to all of the spirits who live there
Their songs will lift you to places you have never seen
With serenity to calm every nerve
To make every dream a very pleasant one
They will even show you hope if it is lacking
Just go there for a minute, an hour, or even a day
So, take a chance and see what your new life would be
Yes the forest will do that and so much more for you
If you just give it a chance

Saving My Life

Saving My Life
By Lord R.e. Taylor

I have been freezing
Trying to get a little warm
Even my nose is frozen
But I know what I have waiting
Warmth and sugar all in one
It is just a couple of more blocks
I can already smell the cocoa
And I dream of the marshmallows
I open the door and rush to the kitchen
Yes, it is there just waiting for me
God, I love my wife
She knows how to save my life

The Waiting Portal

The Waiting Portal
By Lord R.e. Taylor

Walking through the forest
You look and see a treasure
A portal to another reality
Just as beautiful as the one you are in
Do you dare take another step
Go through to the other side
Or stay where you feel safe
That, my friend, is up to you
The portal will be waiting for you
If you ever pass this way again

Johnny Flowerseed

Johnny Flowerseed
by Lord R.e. Taylor

You must be someone new
Another Johnny Appleseed
Leaving flowers wherever you walk
So, please travel the world
Bring life and beauty wherever you go
And we will remember your name
Johnny Flowerseed

A New Life

A New Life
by Lord R.e. Taylor

So many people pass by
Every morning and evening
Plain black asphalt for miles
No one looks away from their phones
They miss so much
Yes, it was a miracle
Only taking one day
A new life sprang into the world
Even with that no one looked
They just walked away
Never caring about anything
Yeah, it was just a flower
But it was life and it was beautiful
Too bad you didn’t see it

Her Small Town Hero

Her Small Town Hero

by Lord R.e. Taylor

She loved her small town
Such characters everywhere
The one she loved best was Turner
He says that he is more than 200 years old
Yet everyone thinks he is in his 80s
He tells fantastic stories
Every one about his life long ago
For a man who voted for Thomas Jefferson
His mind is still sharp as a whip
And, for that small town
Turner is a treasure they can never lose

A King And A God

A King And A God
By Lord R.e. Taylor

You were known long before white men landed
A legend that no one ever had the chance to see
You were both a king and a god
Watching over every creature of the forest
Yet you never asked for anything
It was just your love for those weaker than you
True, you may not exist except in stories
But the forests would not be the same without you
And that would be a shame

The Ride

The Ride
by Lord R.e. Taylor

From the second of conception
Time begins its endless ride
Always traveling faster and faster
Leaving each breath behind
But we have no choice
We joined the ride before we knew better
Now, most of us are well beyond our prime
Still riding that ride
Collecting memories and feelings
Loving and losing the way the ride intended
We are hoping it will not end too soon
But also hoping it will end when the time is right
However, we do not have a choice
Whenever the conductor comes around
He will look carefully at our ticket
He will be the one to decide what station is ours
When he does that it is when our ride ends
And he won’t care as our ride leaves without us

The Lunch Counter

The Lunch Counter
By Lord R.e. Taylor

It was a whole other world
No cellphones or tablets
No text messages
People gathered and talked
The most popular places no longer exist
Every afternoon and all weekends
The place to be was the lunch counter
Woolworth’s always had the best
Every store in every mall and street
Great food that never emptied your pocket
And a staff that would make your day happy
No matter what mood you were in
It is so sad that Woolworth’s had to die
Sadder yet, the lunch counters went with them
But we do have memories and pictures
That way, they will always be alive

Hidden Pain

Hidden Pain
By Lord R.e. Taylor

You cannot tell by looking at someone
What demons are tearing at their souls
How many tears their eyes cannot show
The endless pain that life has given them
Somehow, they manage to survive
Some even manage to thrive
But they keep their pain hidden
They do not want you to judge them
Or make things worse
They want to live the best lives they can
Just like the rest of us

You Are A Treasure

You Are A Treasure

Hidden away the way you are
Not quite the same as a lost city
You are still a treasure to behold

Love’s Promise

Love’s Promise
by Lord R.e. Taylor

He knows how important you are
His heart only beats when you are near
Dreams of you fill his sleep
And his daydreams show only you
He is proud of having you in his life
An integral part of a very long existence
All it took was for him to look into your eyes
And hear the first words you ever said
Love appeared in that moment
Promising to never leave
A promise it intends to keep

Cobblestone Streets

Cobblestone Streets
by Lord R.e. Taylor

All around the world
There is art you can see
You can touch
And you can even walk on
Cobblestones are not new
They have been around forever
Still very few take the time to look at them
The beautiful designs some add
Other archaic haphazard designs
Each adds to the beauty of the medium
If you get the chance to walk a cobblestone street
Take time to look at the stones
Maybe touch a few
Their beauty may just make you smile

British Finger Cakes

British Finger Cakes
By Lord R.e. Taylor

I had no idea she was that kind of girl
One with a warped sense of humor
There were glimpses over time
On Halloween last year I finally fell in love
I told her I loved British finger cakes
Where she got the British fingers, I have no idea
But man, they were delicious

Almighty Imperfections

Almighty Imperfections
By Lord R.e. Taylor

I do not believe in perfection
Humankind was not made for it
Even back in medieval times
Artisans skipped a stitch or two
So, their tapestries were not perfect
Sometimes brush strokes were “forgotten”
Or a color was just a tiny bit off from the rest
Again, not perfection
I am one who follows this tradition
An added or missing lettr
A period or comma in the wrong place
The thing is, only God can be perfect
And not one of us is God
So, we love imperfections as our own
A creative way to show tribute to The God Almighty

The Darkness

The Darkness
by Lord R.e. Taylor

There is something great out there
Brought into traveling miles
Your journey will not be a usual one
A special time when your view changes
The world around you is gone
Hidden in the pure black shadows
There is nothing to see
Nothing to distract you
But there is always something there
So, maybe it is just you and your thoughts
Perhaps that is a good thing but maybe not
It is all up to you and the souls of the darkness

You Can Make A Choice

You Can Make A Choice
By Lord R.e. Taylor

It has been a long time
We cannot remember our last win
Still, we fight and fight
Trying to make things work
Instead, we become confused
Not knowing what is true
Maybe we should go with our hearts
Not trying to overthink things
Sometimes we may get it right
Other times we will likely get it wrong
So, think about it all this way
We will have to live with it
So make a choice
And let the crap fall where it may
After all, it may be fun to watch.

Homesick Doesn’t Kill

Homesick Doesn’t Kill
By Lord R.e. Taylor

It has been a long time
Home doesn’t exist
Everything has changed
People have gone
There is nothing left
Yes, I miss it all
Maybe a bit too much
Being homesick does not kill you
You just wish it would

She Still Watches

She Still Watches
by Lord R.e. Taylor

She was born so long ago
Her mother left her after the birth
Somehow she survived
Lost away from the world
Without love or education
She was different from everyone else
Her world was silent
Only the animals visit her
In all her sun rose and set on her
Some guess more than forty-five thousand times
But she kept to her life
Even to the extent of dying all alone
Still her body sits in her favorite chair
Watching a door which never opens
But that was who this poor woman was
Unloved and unknown for her life
And now for her eternity

Visiting The Bayou

Visiting The Bayou
by Lord R.e. Taylor

There is a place
Everyone knows about
Although no one talks about it
So many strange things are there
Animals that would love to eat you
Witches and warlocks casting spells
And the living dead looking for you
Please, if you do not live in a bayou
Do not take the chance of visiting
So many people have gone in for the day
A lot of them never found their way out
No one knows what happened to them
Or if they do they will not say
So, listen to the tall tales
Believe what those who escaped have to say
And stay out of the Louisiana swamps

All Hallow’s Eve

All Hallow’s Eve
By Lord R.e. Taylor

Every year a month comes along
Dreams of candy and costumes
Parties for the grown-ups
Yelling “trick or treat” for the kids
Ghost stories are told
Still, no one hears the moans in the wind
The feeling that something bad is coming
Maybe some bones scattered around
All Hallows Eve is coming
The dead know when it is
And they want to come out and play
So, get your candy but remain safe
They will be watching to be sure you are

A Long Lost Hero

A Long Lost Hero
by Lord R.e. Taylor

When I was a kid, I loved picking apples
There was a tree standing on the top of a hill
It always had the best-tasting fruit
And we fought for the ones from the top
It was nearly two centuries old
Surviving so many blizzards and storms
Untouched by so much until last year
A gale came up from the lowlands
The leaves blocked out the sun for two days
Revealing a grave from so long ago
After that day when we went to gather apples
We thanked Captain Spencer Tate for his tree
And the apples we picked
A lasting tribute to a long-lost hero

A Cassowary’s Warning

A Cassowary’s Warning
by Lord R.e. Taylor

How dare you come to my land
We never said that you were welcome
You just came and took over
Just as if you owned the place
Well, guess what...you don’t
We are the Alphas here
We decide who comes and who stays
So, if you know what is good for you
Go back to where your kind came from
Or try staying in your cities
You might be safe there
But we haven’t decided yet
Maybe we will let you know when we do
Maybe not though
That is all up to you

The Flower Floats On

The Flower Floats On
by Lord R.e. Taylor

The flower floats peacefully
Following the slightest current
Its colors shine brightly
Showing its beauty in the autumn sun
But will only be seen for a short time
Flowing with the currents
It can be seen for just moments
And then it will be gone
The sad thing is that once it is gone
There will never be another one like it

The Small Shops We Remember

The Small Shops We Remember
by Lord R.e. Taylor

It seems like a very long time ago
Small shops lining the streets
In some cases, for blocks
Every one was different
Offering anything you could want
Their people stayed with them for years
Not there one day and gone the next
These people were your friends
You knew their names and they knew yours
But that was a very long time ago
Before malls and superstores
For sure that was a better time
Friendlier and more caring
But it was taken away by money
And sadly, those small shops will never return

Swimming In A River

Swimming In A River
By Lord R.e. Taylor

Does anyone swim in a river anymore
Away from organized pools
With expensive membership fees
Waitresses bring you foods that cost too much
And lifeguards who just sit in the sun
Their attention on girls in string bikinis
That all instead of swinging from a rope
Before dropping into the cool water
Making the day feel special for you
All without a single X-Box in sight

The Perfect You

The Perfect You
By Lord R.e. Taylor

So are so different from others
Not searching for parties
Not wanting to drink in a dark club
And not desiring a pick-up every night
No, you are not normal
That is definitely a good thing
You want to be who you are
Enjoying the solitude nature offers
Losing your reality in a cup of tea
You are the perfect you
And that is why we love you

Then you are gone

Please Sir

Please Sir
By Lord R.e. Taylor

Please Sir
I have very little left
No brothers or sisters
No mother or father
I live in the streets
All alone
I beg for food when I can
But food doesn’t exist either
Please, Sir, I do have favor to ask
If you have even a single bomb left
Drop it on this innocent child
For I do not want to live any longer
Not in a world that does not exist

Are We Alone?

Are We Alone?
By Lord R.e. Taylor

Have you seen the world beyond
Do you think they have seen us
The universe is a magical place
It can be anything we want it to be
An endless, lifeless vacuum
A place filled with life
Maybe there will be some like us
Maybe so more advanced
Some may not be as smart as we are
It does not matter to the universe
Only your hopes of other lives matter
And the hope that someday we may be worthy
But if they are either friends or enemies
We will no longer be alone
And that will be worth celebrating

Please Take Me Home

Please Take Me Home
By Lord R.e. Taylor

I know I am just a child
There is no reason for me to be here
I never barked or bit anyone
I just wanted to kiss you
And maybe play a little bit
Instead, I end up here
Watching people walk by me
Some look at me and smile
Others walk by and I never see them again
Please, if you can, stop and say hello
Maybe take me home with you if I touch your heart
I promise that my heart is already with you
