Born An Angel

Born An Angel
By Lord R.e. Taylor

She came to us the normal way
Crying, peeing, and messing her diaper
But she had those beautiful blue eyes
And a smile that would melt your heart
Everyone said that she was a little angel
She grew without knowing stress ordain
Never learned to disrespect or to hate
And she would never hurt another being
Her wings never did appear for anyone to see
But after all these years, she is still an angel
And hopefully that will never change

Busker

Busker
By Lord R.e. Taylor

Every weekend, you will find them
Sitting on milk crates, living their lives
With their guitars or keyboards
They produce the best music
Maybe even better than those millionaire singers
They never demand cold spring water
Or an unending appetite for green jellybeans
There are no seven-figure paychecks for them
Just maybe a few fifty-cent pieces
Or the shock of someone giving them a ten-dollar bill
All they get is a true sign of appreciation
With a few added minutes of applause
That is the life of a busker
A true artist performing for the love of music

Waiting On My Package

Waiting On My Package
by Lord R.e. Taylor

Waiting all day
It has to be here
Waiting has been too long
The message came yesterday
Telling me the good news
It was sent in a brown truck
Travelling all of the roads
Some are not even on the map
At least it was on the way
So now the day has come
That package will be here
There is a faith that it will appear
Smiles may replace pacing
Here's to hoping it will be worth it
And not three sizes too small
Like it was the last time

Changing Realities

Changing Realities

by Lord R.e. Taylor

She was always a happy girl

Feeling love and looking to the future

She had a reality she created

Then one day, that reality was gone

Burned and shredded in her soul

Things that were always alright

Now they are the gravest of sins

She remembers the old days

When you used to want to be a wife and a mother

It was not a sin to be a woman

But she cannot go back to relive them

So, she locks herself in an empty room.

And there she creates herself a new reality

One of silence and no chance of being bothered

The only reality she could stand to live in

Feeling Of Death

Feeling Of Death
by Lord R.e. Taylor

What was he feeling
Was he scared
Did he feel pain
Did his soul leave his body
Or did it stay too long
What was he thinking
Did he see anything as he died
Could he say his final words
Or were they trapped in sealed lips
No one will really know what happened
All we know is that the rope tightened
And his life was taken
But when did he know it
That is the question we will never know

Living Fire

Living Fire
By Lord R.e. Taylor

Watch that fire burning
How it appears to be alive
Being tortured by the heat
As it reaches skyward for help
Listen to the screams as it crackles
Almost crying for it all to stop
Watch as pieces of it float away
Carried away on the slightest breeze
So next time you want marshmallows
Or to dry your socks after a rain
Remember that the fire you will use
It may have feelings and fears
The flames just cannot tell you
Not that you would listen anyway

Do Not Tell Me

Do Not Tell Me
By Lord R.e. Taylor

Don't tell me what you want me to know
I am not going to listen to any of that
You will make things up or twist them around
Pepper it with your own opinions
Then give it to me as the gospel truth
The thing is, I do have my own mind
It has all of my own thoughts and ideas
And I know that they are all my truths
So take your ideas and look at them closely
Then come back, and we can have a chat
We both may learn something
Once we both learn to listen

Fairy-Tale Kingdom

Fairy-Tale Kingdom
by Lord R.e. Taylor

You see it ahead of you
A beautiful land surrounding perfect water
Ruled by a king and queen
Created by generations of royalty before them
They keep the land peaceful
Hoping their people live happy lives
Even ships coming from a thousand miles away
They travel for months to land in this kingdom
Everyone is made to feel as if they belong
Because they do
Each citizen makes sure they feel at home
Maybe this land is a fantasy
Created by stories heard when you were a child
But what if it is not
What if all of the stories were true
Wouldn’t that be a great place to visit
And it’s even better to settle in

The Land Of Sleep

The Land Of Sleep
By Lord R.e. Taylor

If only dreams could come true
If just one thing we see at night
If they could happen in the light of day
Maybe one or two of the magical creatures
The ones who made me laugh
Or maybe the one that made us cry
Just something to show us they are real
That they hear our wishes
And that maybe we can have some hope
That just maybe our dreams are heard
And that maybe someday one will come true
And maybe the dreams we chase
Are not meant to stay asleep.
Maybe they wait in the quiet,
Listening for the one heart
Brave enough to believe in belief
Maybe they walk beside us,
Unseen but never far,
Carrying the pieces of hope
We thought we lost.
And maybe—just maybe—
They choose their moment
To step into daylight
And prove we were right to wish at all

My P.I.N.T.A.

My P.I.N.T.A.
by Lord R.e. Taylor

We all have to deal with it
Some more often than others
No matter how well I do
It doesn’t matter how hard I try
There will always be someone
Most likely someone close to you
Saying  that this is wrong
Or that is wrong
Eventually, you just give in
You'll do it their way
Not because they are right
“They rarely are.”
Rather, just to shut them up

Nighttime Terrors

Nighttime Terrors
by Lord R.e. Taylor

He doesn’t know the time
Hell, he doesn’t even know what year it is
Sleep has to come to him soon
His eyes are nothing but slits
He can see the TV hanging on the wall
There are no sounds coming out
Just the grey snow of a lost signal
Snow, which reveals twisted faces
And monsters, he would not dream about
He knows that everyone else is asleep
Still, he sees shadows move around his room
His mind says that they are not real
There is no way they could be
But his nerves say the shadows are after him
So, he doesn’t sleep until the Sun comes up
And then he sleeps with one eye open
Just in case

A Bunny Of Two Generations

A Bunny Of Two Generations
by Lord R.e. Taylor

Mom, I used to be your friend
You remember back when you were five
We were always together…. always
You got dirty, and I got dirty
I spent so many hours getting washed
I liked it, but I love hanging on the line better
Got to watch you play without me
You didn’t know that always made my day
Now, you have a little angel all of your own
You found me hiding in the attic
Yeah, I was dirty, I always was
So, I got all washed and cleaned up
No, dryer for me though
You hung me just like your mom did
I have a feeling for your little girl, and I
Well, we are going to be as we were
So long ago when we were dirty and best friends

A Dangerous Journey

A Dangerous Journey
by Lord R.e. Taylor

She grew up so long ago
The world was so different
Everything was so good
Nothing but black and white
No shades of grey were around
Then everything changed
Heroes died in a strange way
Political people lie more and more
And normal people began hating everyone
Not remembering if they were male or female
Fighting for everything that was wrong
And shooting up children for no good reason
Finally, the country was destroyed
The world was crippled  beyond repair
Those people got what they wanted
The past was gone, the future was gone
Humanity was gone

Waiting In Heaven

Waiting In Heaven
By Lord R.e. Taylor

I never thought about it
What would my life be
I thought it would be good
Your smile told me so
I saw your love in your eyes
And heard your heart in your voice
But that was a lifetime ago
I can see you in my dreams
My heart is still open to you
However, your smile eludes me
I would give anything to see that again
Just know that if I have to
I would stand at the gates of Heaven
Just for a small chance to love you again

The New Land

The New Land
By Lord R.e. Taylor

Now I am there
No idea where
Yes, it is scary
I really had no idea
It is not my world
Not from my imagination
Who created such a place
Why did they make it
No one will tell me
But maybe the land isn't real
Maybe it is far too real
I may never figure it all out
If I do, I may not want to know
Or maybe I just won't care

Ode To A Modern Aphrodite

How can any words describe her
So many have tried and failed
Poetry, songs, stories, and pictures
Nothing fits her perfectly
Her eyes and smile are mystical
Her skin appears to be the purest ivory
Not even the smallest flaw can ever be seen
She evokes powers deep within her
The ability to make people smile
And they fall in love without hesitation
But all of their love is unrequited
Such is the life of a modern Aphrodite
A woman every man wants
But no man may ever possess

The Isolated Garden

The Isolated Garden
By Lord R.e. Taylor

Acres and acres of flowers
Touched but the Sun
Watered by cool Summer rains
And blessed by a traversing Moon
They grow without making a sound
But their petals reach for every cloud
Waving loving greetings as they float by
So many birds know each flower
Friends they share with bees and butterflies
The best thing is that no human knows this place
They have not stomped on the flowers
Nor have they picked them for home decor
And no concrete monsters are seen
This may truly be the last place flowers can live
All we can do is ask the Universe to keep it safe
And hope the answer comes soon enough

Changing Future

Changing Future
by Lord R.e. Taylor

Bit by bit, the world changes
What was just a dream a few years ago
Now is a new reality
Things not known in our history
Things everyone thought were insane
We now use it in our everyday lives
And we never even think about them
Maybe when our great-grandkids are grown
They will look back on us as primitives
No more than how we think of cavemen
The bad thing is that is what we think now
We look back at a few generations
And we think about how primitive  they were
So, I guess we will deserve it

A Message To My Momma

A Message To My Momma
by Lord R.e. Taylor

Momma, I know you do not know me
We have not met yet
But I already know you
I can hear your voice when you talk
Your heartbeat is like music
A song that only I can hear
But I do know your thoughts
I know that you never wanted me
Momma, I know that I will be a good girl
You will always know my love for you
I may be the woman who cures cancer
So, please Momma
Do not go through that door
Please, Momma, give me a chance to live
I may end up being the love of your life
If only you can allow me to take my first breath
And give me the chance to be who I am

Remnants Of Salem

Remnants Of Salem
by Lord R.e. Taylor

So many people died from hatred
Convicted by stories told
None true but all believed
Some men, but mostly women
Tortured endlessly by the church
Always trying to get a confession
Murdered if they told the truth
Murdered if they lied
No one stood a chance against them
They were always found guilty
And burned in the holy fires of God
A fire, which may have been a hidden blessing
It stopped the pain of all the Innocents
And made the holy people happy at the same time
Thank whoever may be watching us
We stepped beyond barbaric religions
And now no one gets burned
But the torture still continues

My Smart-Ass Dog

My Smart-Ass Dog
by Lord R.e. Taylor

I watch my dog carefully
He is a smart ass
Just plops down on the floor
A second later, sound asleep
And always in the worst spot
Always needs a walk when it's raining
Or worse yet, when it's snowing
He just seems to know
I lose half of my meals to him
Or he drools all over my legs
And it doesn't matter, the spicier the better
But he doesn't share his sirloin and gravy with me
Yeah, he is a real smart ass
I would not give him up for anything in this world

My Life Alone

My Life Alone
by Lord R.e. Taylor

It was far too short a time
Our love began on the first day
The brightest light ever seen
But every light has to fade
Turning into the darkest dark
I know there will always be a spark
Floating just beyond reach
It is still reminding me of us
The constant love we shared
And how it all changed one day
When you went somewhere
I never knew where you ended up
But I'll spend the rest of my life alone
Crying and dreaming of a life long gone

The Morning Joke

The Morning Joke
by Lord R.e. Taylor

It is almost like a curse
Every morning it comes
The clock ticks at five o’clock
The birds start their chirping
The air warms up just a bit
And a single beam of sunlight
It finds a small crack in the curtain
It is only as wide as a strand of hair
But more than enough to light the room
And it is enough to destroy a night's sleep
So many have had this problem
No one has ever come close to solving it
The Sun always manages to find a way
It is like the universe is playing a joke
And we are the punch line

Missing Memories

Missing Memories
by Lord R.e. Taylor

There are so many kinds of pain
Going back to your hometown
All of your friends have moved away
Your school is now a car dealership
The burger joint you went to has changed
It now sells vegan tacos every other day
And the home you grew up in  is gone too
Torn down for a new street or something else
Yes, those are different kinds of pain
We all have to live through them
But, those pains prove something
Home is only in our memories
And that is where we should keep it

The Girl With Obsidian Tears

The Girl With Obsidian Tears
by Lord R.e. Taylor

She seemed so happy
A normal girl
Smiling and laughing
No one knew the truth
Her life was anything but good
Emotions torn apart
She had no one to talk to
Nowhere to go to get away
The pain has been building up for years
But the day he left her alone
The volcano in her soul erupted
And she cried for the first time in her life
Tears of obsidian flowed down her cheek
And remained there for the rest of her days

The Beauty Of Embers

The Beauty Of Embers
by Lord R.e. Taylor

The fires died long ago
Ember keeps the night warm
But darkness surrounds it
Allow the song of nature to play
And the lights of a billion stars to shine
Even with all of that happening all around
The soft glow of the fading embers shines
Letting the world know that flames are not the only beauty
The lack of a living flame may be as beautiful
Maybe even more so on a warm summer evening
When the stars, the sounds, and the darkness
They all combine with the soft red glow
And together they make a perfect scenery

Minnesota

Minnesota
By Lord R.e. Taylor

He is watching you, Minnesota
All the theft and murder you allow
Crimes committed by those who do not belong
Your governor supports evil
Protecting it as it runs your streets
The lead retard gives them shelter
Hiding them from the righteous warriors
But the righteous will find them
You cannot hide from his vision
He is always watching you
But he is going to keep watching you
Waiting until you destroy yourselves
And he will watch the reckoning
The one you’ve summoned for yourselves

Baby, Please Stay Safe

Baby, Please Stay Safe
by Lord R.e. Taylor

Little one, do not look around
Stay in your mother’s embrace
Even though your world is gone
Destroyed all around you
She will keep you healthy and safe
It is her job to allow you to grow up
And wander the world all alone
When the time comes, remember her
And how tightly she held you
You should do the same for your children
And she is sure that you will
After all...you learned from your mother
The best teacher you could ever have

The Train Station

The Train Station
by Lord R.e. Taylor

He was just a child
He would watch the trains
Every night at the same time
It was never more than ten minutes late
That was how he learned to tell time
They became his life
Then the day came when the trains stopped
It had been so many years
No one knew it was going to happen
But one day it was gone
Now he is an old man
That train stop is still making a few memories
But he does have one wish
When he dies, please let him die on that lonely bench
That way, it will be his first step to heaven
