Best Memories

Best Memories
by Lord R.e. Taylor

Just the two of us
In the place where we met
The salty smell of the ocean
And the rhythm of the waves
Everything is the same as forty years ago
When we shared our

first words
And our first of a billion kisses
Under the light of a tropical sunset
The beach is mostly silent
But we never noticed
Even after so long, we hear our own music
Music that no one else will ever hear
We dance our most romantic dance
And in that moment, we promise our love
Not only for the next forty years
But for all time and beyond

Stars Of Love

Stars Of Love
By Lord R.e. Taylor

So many points of light
Lighting the night sky
Balls of fire billions of miles away
Are we the only ones with our own star
Created to give life to our little rock
Life which covers every inch
But it is possible we are all alone
That God didn't create anyone else
Surely every point of light has a planet
And more than a few hold life
They may not look like us
But they are also God's creations
Family we never knew existed
But family we should try to meet
At least that way we would not be alone
And the universe may become a bit smaller

Damp And Dewy On An April Morning

Damp And Dewy On An April Morning
By Lord R.e. Taylor

It was such a hard week
Way too much to do
No time to just relax
Even sleep was lacking
But Saturday morning came
Quiet and peaceful
Even stepping outside was paradise
Every blade of grass shone like a diamond
Tiny drops of springtime dew
Stepping off the porch I forgot
That week no longer mattered
Every drop took away another memory
And, at least for a while
I was happy
And I was in Heaven

Your Time Left

Your Time Left
by Lord R.e. Taylor

The minutes are going faster
Months are nothing but blurs
And years are non-existent
The older you get
The faster the time flies
You know that most of your time is over
The time ahead gets shorter every day
So, no matter how fast time flows
You should live your life minute by minute
And you should try to enjoy each one
Sadly, they will run out before you know it

My Palace

My Palace
by Lord R.e. Taylor

My palace
A place for just me
A nice soft bed
With fluffy pillows
No lights or windows
Just a single candle
Burning faintly on my nightstand
Barely enough light to reach the walls
Still, I lay alone in my bed
Looking at the flickering flame
Watching the candle become nothing
I mourn for the loss
But, I also mourn for me
My heart feels a deep emptiness
Knowing that I am losing my one friend
And knowing that it can never return

Never To Say Goodbye

Never To Say Goodbye
by Lord R.e. Taylor

The call came in the evening
So many friends were around
My family all left
Heading for the hospital
Left alone I knew something
But there was no way to be sure
In that time she took her last breath
Her heartbeat softened and ended
Then my mom was gone
And I never got to say goodbye

Opal

Opal
by Lord R.e. Taylor

I look at that flower
Just outside my door
A beautiful bluish rose
Seeing it makes me remember
The first time I saw your eyes
As blue as the most perfect opal
The first words we ever said
And the look when I first kissed you
I remember all of that and so much more
Everything that makes you who you are
A proud, independent woman
One the world should be proud to have
And the woman I am honoured to love

An Uneasy Morning

An Uneasy Morning
by Lord R.e. Taylor

Usually morning is a symphony
Leaves rustling in the breeze
Kids on their way to school
And millions of birds
Every species all together
Owning every tree you can see
But there is a scary side to mornings
Those rare mornings with no breeze
No kids laughing and playing outside
And the trees dead silent with no birds
Even your heartbeat and breathing are silent
It is then when if feel like world ended
Or maybe you have left that world behind
But if you have patience the world will return
The breeze will blow, the kids will play
And the birds will once again wake you up
Then your life will be normal
And you WILL be happy

She Came From The Fog

She Came From The Fog
by Lord R.e. Taylor

She stepped out of the fog
I never heard her coming
Turning around, she was there
She walked to me as if she knew me
Touching my shoulder, she smiled
Then she said something I didn't expect
She told me that my life was perfect
It was full of love and creativity
She added that the Fates were watching
Setting everything in motion
Pushing me forever forward
Then she stepped back into the fog
Entering without a sound
Yes, she was gone
But knowing her for even a moment
That made my life so much better
I thank the gods for that little horned girl

When the Mind Wanders

When the Mind Wanders
By Lord R.e. Taylor

He never knows when it will happen
Maybe when he is in bed, barely sleeping
Sitting in his office, while he works
Or even if he is doing nothing at all
His mind starts to wander
Not to unknown fantasies
Rather, to memories he did not seek
Scenes lost to years past
Still, he remembers each of them
And he looks back on them in amazement
Because he knows they are a part of him
Parts he will always treasure

Jimmy Didn’t Understand

Jimmy Didn’t Understand
by Lord R.e. Taylor

The child was about three years old
Not even old enough for school\
But he knew his Mommy and Daddy were good people
They would never, ever harm him
But one day he found a new “toy”
Daddy must have been playing with it
Sadly, that day he forgot to put it away
Little Jimmy knew how to play with it
He had seen Daddy playing with it before
He knew just how to hold  like Daddy did
Daddy wasn’t home but Mommy was
Jimmy was holding his new toy
Mommy let out a scream
The toy exploded with a loud crack
And Mommy fell to the floor
Jimmy tried to wake her but she was going
She looked at him and said, “I love you”
He really had no idea what he had done
He just knew that Mommy was sleeping
Jimmy was sad as she “slept”
He couldn’t understand that she would never wake up again
Hopefully Daddy will still love him when he gets home
After all, it was not little Jimmy’s fault

The Curse of What If

The Curse of What If
by Lord R.e. Taylor

What if...
They are only two small words,
Harmless enough when left alone,
Silent, so long as they do not lean toward each other.
But the moment they touch, something in the dark stirs.
A door unlatched, a wound reopened, a shadow that follows you home.
It asks only one thing of you:
What if I had chosen differently?
That is enough to send the mind drifting into places it should not go,
Through the graves of the past,
Through the choking stillness of the present,
Toward futures that linger like ghosts beyond a locked door.
Some paths might have spared you,
Others still move behind you, soft-footed and patient.
That is the curse of those two words:
They can bury you in a life that never happened.

Because Of A Letter

Because Of A Letter
by Lord R.e. Taylor

I had no idea it could happen
I had no idea it would happen
The day I saw your letter
Even without knowing you
I just knew that I felt something
It wasn’t love
It couldn’t have been
But there was something
We had to talk
We had to meet
When we did I saw something in your eyes
And when we did I meet knew it WAS love
Until this day and on to eternity
My heart and soul will always be yours

Fantasies

Fantasies
By Lord R.e Taylor

Everyone has fantasies
Beautiful tropical lands
The perfect job
The perfect kids
And the perfect house
There is one problem with that
Something you cannot avoid
Nor can it ever be defeated
They are the infinite possibilities
The ones twisting in our futures
So, please don't take things seriously
You cannot ask for what's coming
You cannot say no to it
So, just deal with it the best you can
And just smile and get on with your life
It is all you do anyway

Invention Of Time

Invention Of Time
by Lord R.e. Taylor

Who was the guy who invented time
I would really love a chance to meet him
Maybe find out what he was thinking
Why are there only twenty-four hours
Why can't a day be twelve or thirty
Or...why do we need hours at all
We could or would never be late
Nor could we ever be too early
Think how nice that would be
There would be no tomorrow
And we would never have a yesterday
A lifetime without the rules of time
If only that man could have paused
Maybe just a moment longer to think
If only the tavern didn't have to close
And neither would I
Maybe life would be just a little better

The Reason He Writes

The Reason He Writes
by Lord R.e. Taylor

He doesn't want to be famous
He doesn't need to be rich
For him, life is just creation
A chance to share thoughts
And maybe even a feeling or two
He does love it when people read his stuff
If he can make them laugh or cry
Or even just make them think a bit
He will have completed his purpose
And for a little while, his life is complete

ANZACS

ANZACS
by Lord R.e. Taylor

They were never asked
All they saw was that their country needed help
Trained for weeks and shipped off
No one knew what would happen
But everyone knew what could happen
Thousands of young men fought
Many died a death never dreamed of
After years of fighting and death
Most came home as heroes
Others are buried in the land they defended
They are all truly remembered one day a year
We make sure that Anzac Day will never be changed
And that we will never forget

Fire In My Mind

Fire In My Mind
by Lord R.e. Taylor

There is a fire always burning
It has very little heat
And even less smoke
Yet it destroys my thoughts
Tears them to pieces right before me
I pray to God to extinguish the flames
Maybe allow my mind to work as it should
I am not asking to have it back forever
Just an hour or even just a moment
Long enough for me to have a single thought
Long enough for me to remember you
And some of the love I had for you
That would be all I would ever need
And all I would ever want
Is that too much to ask for
I do not think so

Her Unique Place

Her Unique Place
by Lord R.e. Taylor

I do have to admire you
You can be so relaxed
Not a thing will bother you
It is as if nothing exists around you
Your entire world is the warm sun
The sound of the birds in the trees
And the cool breeze caressing your face
Somehow, you have found what we all want
A unique place in reality
A minute away from everything
And your very own one-of-a-kind happiness
Please do not let the universe take it away
You may never get it back
That would destroy your very soul

The Three Sisters

The Three Sisters
by Lord R.e. Taylor

Pathways thousands of years old
Walked by so many people
Shaded by a tropical canopy
With wildlife watching from everywhere
Legends are spoken of sparsely
Some are better left to the vault of the ages
Yet everyone knows they are safe
Blessed by idols created when the world was young
Three massive towers of stone
Eternally guarding the valley
The Three Sisters watch for you
They will always protect you
That is their promise and their purpose

That Lonely House

That Lonely House
by Lord R.e. Taylor

That old house
Tattered and shredded
She may have been abandoned
So many years ago
She has been left to decay
By people who just didn't care
I found her on a long ride
Sitting there, I could hear it crying
It never asked to be built
Now, all it wants is someone to drive up
Maybe walk on her porch
Or look in the dirty windows
I knew at that moment she was to be mine
Now, she is the one place on the whole planet
The one place my heart can be at peace
Just relaxing in the most beautiful place ever

One Country, One Saviour

One Country, One Saviour
By Lord R.e. Taylor

The world is falling apart.
Allied leaders stand back,
Calling it someone else’s problem.
History remembers when that happened last—
When Germany and Japan advanced unchecked.
Europe might speak German today.
Australia might speak Japanese.
But one nation intervened,
Turning the tide without complaint.
Now those same nations turn away again.
Next time, that nation may not answer.
And only in its absence
Will they understand what they lost.

My Love For You

My Love For You
by Lord R.e. Taylor

All it takes is a small flame
It could be nothing more than a spark
Just enough light to see each other
To see the beauty in your eyes
To feel the soft beat of your heart
And dream of hearing your voice
That small flame is so much more to me
It opens the gateway to my Heaven
And allows my love for you to grow

Woman Of Darkness

Woman Of Darkness
by Lord R.e. Taylor

Who is she
Why does she hide in the darkness
Does she have something to hide
Or does her hatred consume her
She never says a word
Just watches with her sharpened claws
Maybe she is waiting for evil
Or maybe she wants to destroy good
There is no way of knowing
How many bodies has she destroyed
Or how many souls she has kidnapped
All we can do is cry for the lost
And pray that she will never find us

The First Poet

The First Poet
By Lord R.e. Taylor

We know not who it was
Someone in our ancient past
Whether a man or a woman
We will most likely never know
Did they write a tribute to a hero
Or were the words written for true love
Either way, the first poem saw the light of day
Since that day, poets have written billions of words
Sharing the infinity of human thoughts or feelings
Strangely, poetry has become so much stronger
Changing the future while recording the past
A single poem is able to change the world
Whether for the better or not is only up to the poet
If only that first poet could see what it has become
It is hard to say if they would be proud or not
But they would be happy to see their art still living

His Guardian Angel

His Guardian Angel
by Lord R.e. Taylor

When he was little
There was always a voice
It came from his shoulder
It told him what to do
And how he should behave
It kept him out of trouble
Eventually, he got older
The voice kept trying
He just stopped hearing it
One day, there was no voice
Only the soft sound of crying
And an increasing number of curse words
Finally, he saw his Guardian Angel on his shoulder
Smoking a big fat joint and drinking some Jack
He was still on the job, trying his best
But even an angel can only take so much
And after that, who knows what could happen

Looking For Intelligent Life

Looking For Intelligent Life
by Lord R.e Taylor

Every day, the Sun rises on eight plants
Most of them are dead, so no one ever sees it
But one is teeming with billions of lifeforms
They celebrate a new start to life
A brand new day with so many new things
It also begins a day of labouring
Doing what you have to do to survive
But the Sun will always hope that some intelligent life will see it
However, that may never happen
The only planet around it with life is Earth
And we all know that there is no intelligent life there

Born An Angel

Born An Angel
By Lord R.e. Taylor

She came to us the normal way
Crying, peeing, and messing her diaper
But she had those beautiful blue eyes
And a smile that would melt your heart
Everyone said that she was a little angel
She grew without knowing stress ordain
Never learned to disrespect or to hate
And she would never hurt another being
Her wings never did appear for anyone to see
But after all these years, she is still an angel
And hopefully that will never change

Busker

Busker
By Lord R.e. Taylor

Every weekend, you will find them
Sitting on milk crates, living their lives
With their guitars or keyboards
They produce the best music
Maybe even better than those millionaire singers
They never demand cold spring water
Or an unending appetite for green jellybeans
There are no seven-figure paychecks for them
Just maybe a few fifty-cent pieces
Or the shock of someone giving them a ten-dollar bill
All they get is a true sign of appreciation
With a few added minutes of applause
That is the life of a busker
A true artist performing for the love of music

Waiting On My Package

Waiting On My Package
by Lord R.e. Taylor

Waiting all day
It has to be here
Waiting has been too long
The message came yesterday
Telling me the good news
It was sent in a brown truck
Travelling all of the roads
Some are not even on the map
At least it was on the way
So now the day has come
That package will be here
There is a faith that it will appear
Smiles may replace pacing
Here's to hoping it will be worth it
And not three sizes too small
Like it was the last time
