A Proud Aborigine

A Proud Aborigine

He wasn’t very old
Not a child but not yet a man
He lived a good life
But he was doing something wrong
His Mum was black, and his Dad was white
A crime in the eyes of way too many
So, the Government took him away
He was given away to an unknown family
Rich and white
The best Australia has to offer
He was taught how to be white
And taught to forget being black
His culture was lost
The Dreamworld was lost
The language was lost
Still he lived and grew into manhood
Learning his heritage as he grew
And one day he will return
No longer carrying a European name
He once again will become a proud Aborigine
