The First Poet

We know not who it was
Someone in our ancient past
Whether a man or a woman
We will most likely never know
Did they write a tribute to a hero
Or were the words written for true love
Either way, the first poem saw the light of day
Since that day, poets have written billions of words
Sharing the infinity of human thoughts or feelings
Strangely, poetry has become so much stronger
Changing the future while recording the past
A single poem is able to change the world
Whether for the better or not is only up to the poet
If only that first poet could see what it has become
It is hard to say if they would be proud or not
But they would be happy to see their art still living
