Looking At Stars

Looking At Stars

A million billion spots of light
So far away
Still just beyond our reach
We pray to them
We make a wish on the first one we see
Yet we know that they are not magical
They cannot hear our prayers
They do not know what our wishes are
But they are there for us
To count on a cloudless night
To watch as they cross our skies
And even for us to wish upon
That will never change
And we would not want it to

The Golden Gate

The Golden Gate

What is behind that golden door
The one our parents didn’t want us to see
Saved for the old it remains locked
My mind wanders as I look at the girl across the room
What does the door hide
What could be behind it that I should never see
For years I wonder
My mind fantasizes dreams that could never be possible
One night there is a kiss from a special girl
A touch of our hands
A look into her eyes as the shine in the moonlight
The golden gates open and I learn the secret
The secret which was so long hidden from me
I learn the secret of being in love

Woman of Gold

Woman of Gold

Are you a statue?
Or are you a goddess
Frozen in time
Such beauty for all to admire
Yet we know that there is more to you
Maybe a life of sadness
Maybe you lived in the purest joy
We can tell what your soul is like
Your eyes stare straight ahead
Looking at all of us
Maybe you are wondering what we think
As we pass by and look at you
Woman of gold
Although out heart goes out
We will always remember you
Although we may never know the real you
Our minds will give you life
Our thought will tell your story
And in our heart you will be alive

I Can't

I Can’t

Together forever
One night the wrong word was said
You left our house
You left our bed
You left my heart broken and dying
Never to come back
Still I see you in my life
The waitress at the diner
The barmaid at the saloon
And every girl walking down the street
They all have your face
The same glint I remember in your eyes
The same perfume you wore to bed
I cannot see the real world
Only the one where you were with me
No matter what I do
How much my mind tries to wander
Even the songs on the old country channel
They remind me of my time with you
I can’t get you out of my head

The Story

The Story

I look at my keyboard
What could I possibly say?
How could I tell the story I see?
The characters are so strong
The lines maybe say too much
I want them to be believed
Yet, I know that they will not
It is a story of a world I see
One of pure good
One of the purest evil
How can I write it?
How could anyone see what I see?
What words could speak my words?
My thoughts are so different
Never the same as everyone’s reality
This is a story that needs to be told
My fingers have to move
The keys have to click as I touch them
The story will flow onto the screen
The words will come
The story will be told

If I could just move my fingers

They Don't Care

They Don’t Care

Don’t pledge allegiance to the flag
I don’t want to hear your prayers
God and the country have turned their backs on us
How could they allow people to die on the streets?
Why do children go to bed with nothing to eat?
Seniors are forced to survive on cat food
Our young are sent to kill and be killed
This is no way for our lives to be
They control our lives
They make the choices for us
It is time for them to think
It is time for them to care
If they don’t
If they can’t
We will never survive
Then who will they control?

The Hippie Girl

The Hippie Girl

Look at that girl walking down the street
So far out of time
A denim maxi skirt
Long straight hair
Bracelets on both arms
And necklaces covering her chest
She is an angel from a forgotten time
Even after so many years
Her appearance means so much to so many people
Remembering a movement for peace in a time of war
Does she know that she celebrates love?
Don’t tell her what she means
Just let her walk in peace
Let her be who she is
Let her spread the message of peace and love
Even if she doesn’t know she’s doing it
