Dirty Knees

Dirty Knees

You don’t know it yet
Your time is way too short
Play the way you want to
Run across the meadows
Jump in the summer sun
And let your knees get dirty
You are a little girl
A free spirit
Blessed with energy and excitement
And an innocence to see the world
So be who you are
Your time is short
The day will come when you are grown
With a job and a child
And, on the toughest days
You will remember when you ran and jumped
When you loved getting your knees dirty
And maybe you will smile
When your daughter comes home with dirty knees
