Mountain Boys

Mountain Boys
By R.e. Taylor

Mountain boys
Locked in a prison
One that once ruled their fathers
Grandfathers and everyone they knew
Never seeing the sun
They survive deep underground
Breathing poison gasses
And dust which kills them
But they know that is their life
When the day is done
Most return home to their families
Too tired to be with friends
Other become buried
Surrounded by tons of rock
They gasp for needed air
While their bosses worry about their money
Such is the life for mountain boys
Spending their lives in a dark coal mine
Never knowing if they will survive
To work another day
In their own dark, cold hell
