Final Heartbeats

I feel my heartbeat
I have never felt it before
But it is ever so weak
It won't last me much longer
I am sure of that
But I do not care
It allowed me to find you
Gave me the chance to love you
And it allowed you to walk away
So, without you in my life
I no longer need to know it is there
So, in the few beats that I have left
Please let me remember you
Just the way you were when we loved
And not the door closing behind you
Even in death, I could not bear that again
