Never Growing Up

Never Growing Up
By R.e. Taylor

I did what was expected
Sixteen years of school
Which taught me how to think
Just learn the facts
Recite them back to us
That is what they wanted
But I could not give it to them
I thought for myself
Reading and creating stories
With dragons and princesses
Elves and massive castles
And unicorns running in the fields
To me growing up wasn’t learning facts
Growing up was losing your imagination
That was something I refused to do
So, I decided never to grow up
And decades later I still haven’t
